Human vs. Equine Healthcare: an Expose

Mother's chipped tooth got me thinking... human healthcare sounds a bit different from mine.

Sometimes, Equine seems better. For instance, poor Mother did not get sent to her Happy Place to have her tooth repaired. What's the point of the dentist if not to find your happy place?

And our doctors make house calls.

On the other hand, a friend of Mother's underwent an elective surgery, but the patient was told to lay down on the table before being anesthetized. UNFAIR!!! I got dropped both times I had to undergo general anesthesia. That makes you sore after, no matter how gently they guide you down the padded wall.

Not me, but you get the point. Thunk

Mother says that my healthcare costs are, mostly, more reasonable. For instance, as much as she spent on my leg and face, it actually was not as much as the bill was from her one night stay in the hospital for her heart misbehaving.

Sure, Mother's Jersey friend may have had a really high bill when she broke her leg in a jillion pieces... but they didn't shoot her.

Then there's the whole insurance thing which really makes no sense to me.

I give up.

  1. I agree. I think the equine medicine tends to be better than human medicine! Although... I'm not sure if the same applies for a broken leg.

  2. I was on stall rest for some time after my leg surgery, so I sympathize with you, Dom!

    1. EllMagCoop,

I forwarded your message on. I was saddened that she had to limit readership, but sometimes it's the best way to deal with the "no-fun" people.

      Sigh

  4. Bif - you ever notice that humans in general (not pointing at your mother) just whine about stuff?

I mean do you remember when you were.. ah-hem.. gelded? They probably just did it right there in the field instead of some comfy office with fly control!

  5. Uh, it was so cold, I actually was taken to the vet clinic. And it was December, so definitely no flies.
