Mother croaked... at me

I've been a little concerned... I haven't seen Mother since... Friday? I wasn't super worried, there've been cookies in my grain so I figured her absences were intentional, but I must admit I was relieved when I saw her car pull in today. She was in the barn for 5 minutes, then she came out to the fence. She didn't even call my name, just held up a cookie...

I came over to visit. She said "Hi", but it sounded like a horrible frog, not Mother's voice at all. She handed me two cookies, then turned and walked to the car, coughing horribly.

I'm torn. On the one hand, ew, that's just gross, disease disease disease STAY AWAY FROM THE HERD! But part of me still loves her.. she is the cookie and care human.

I hope she'll be OK. I don't want to have to train a new cookie and care human.

  1. Aunt Nancy tried to explain to me that humans that are sick won't make horses sick, but I don't know if I believe her. Fortunately, other humans at the barn take care of me when Mother isn't here.
Surely Mother will shed off her illness and return soon. She isn't overly prone to diseases, in my experience.
They have vets for people, right, if I need to call one?

  2. Fear not, young Bif! Most diseases are what we call "species-specific", which just means that humans can pass them to other humans but not to horses, and horses can pass diseases to other horses but not to humans. So your Mother can't infect the herd.

There are vets for people if you need one. Your Mother told me that she felt better, even though she sounds worse, so that is a good sign. The same thing happens to me when I am sick.

  3. Bif ~ Is your Mom feeling any better? I have extra people I can send you so you aren't neglected!

  4. Mother went to work today, but said she was too tired to see me. She'll be here tomorrow. I think her priorities are skewed.

Sigh. Who knew humans would be such hard work?
